A convincing video is no longer proof.
The FTC warns that scammers steal and manipulate pet photos and videos and can use AI-generated deepfakes. AI can also clone a person’s voice from a short audio clip. A video call is useful—but it should never be the only check.

The reason this exists
ProvenPet began with Mako.
Mako came home as a tiny Doberman puppy—curious, fearless and already part of our family. We imagined all the years ahead. Three days later, everything changed.
When we removed the wrapping from his ears, we discovered they had never been cropped. The wrapping we trusted had hidden the truth. As we reviewed the documents we had received, we also developed serious concerns about irregularities in Mako’s health certificate and reported them to the appropriate authorities.
When I shared Mako’s story publicly, hundreds of families reached out with hauntingly similar experiences—questionable documents, devastating veterinary bills, heartbreaking outcomes and unanswered questions. I realized this was no longer only about one puppy. Mako had become a voice for families and animals who deserved honesty, accountability and protection.
That experience inspired the Mako-O-Wish Foundation and ProvenPet Technologies. The foundation educates buyers, promotes responsible breeding and advocates for dogs who cannot speak for themselves. ProvenPet is the verification process I wish our family had before bringing Mako home.
